Subject: FOF ADV testing

Here is the whole story for those who would like to see it all in
one place. Please feel free to pass it on. And please those with
opinions...lets not keep them to themselves. those of us
testing...please lets share our experiences.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You need to read this closely to get it...so many aren't seeing
whats up...which is the BLOOD avecon tests are giving the
WIERDEST results. All Saliva tests and United CEP tests to
date have been Negative on ADV. Blood Elisa and POCT tests
seem to be giving conflicting answers.

I've discussed this problem with many others testing. Answers
to the problem? Well, there are some idea's..but no definate
answers. Some idea's have been.....

1) The Blood avecon tests are wrong. Either because they just
plain are and have been or because of a recent problem with
them.

2) They are picking up ADV, but it's a new strain...which is not
being picked up by any other testing methods-United CEP or
Avecon Saliva. If this is the case, even the blood Avecon is
having problems, because as you can see...they are not always
positive....Look at Romeo's results. Which means the
implication of this would be a serious hardship on our ferrets.
Tossing all testing methods out the door and having to blood
test by Avecon several times over each ferret to be certain of it's
statis.

I hope by telling this whole story it will help get an open debate
going as to what might be going on here.

--------------------------------------------------------

Ok...Neen (wyoming shelter) took a trip up here to have some
kids surgeries done by Doc Deb.

We started hearing weird reports about false negatives on saliva
tests....so this begins the mess....

-------------------------
We have tested for ADV since Nov. of 2000 by saliva, using both
the POCT and elisa test on all incoming ferrets. Some have
been done more than once.

Frontier ferrets has been testing (not sure how long) using the
POCT test.

Sam, now belonging to my Vet Tech, has been tested here using
the Elisa and then about a week and half prior to the beginning
of this mess at the vets office using the POCT test.

Blood tests have been done in house at my vets, with directions
that were sent by Dr. Stephens. All Blood tests have been done
by pulling blood and NOT by clipping toe nails. Sterile new vials
used on each ferret.

UNITED CEP

BLOOD ELISA (AVECON)
3/18/02

Blood Elisa tests all came in-
1 positive-Snowflake
-------------------------------
***Note on Snowflake. She has been here since 99'. She has
been ill since arriving. It is believed she has had
lymphosarcoma, though no biopsy has been done due to her
health being so poor. Blood results indicate it as a good
possibility though. Snowflake has been tested previously by the
ELISA SALIVA TEST and then by at least 6 POCT saliva tests. All
previously negative. Recent United CEP (blood drawn at the
same time as BLOOD ELISA) and Saliva Elisa both were
Negative.
--------------------------------
SALIVA ELISA (AVECON)
3/20/02

Saliva Elisa results-
All negative
-------------------------------

And now to completely bring ya up to date-
Snowflake goes in Friday (3/22/02) and we are sending Blood
Serum, Feces and urine to Dr. Stevenson for the CIEP testing.
