Subject: Re; Over the counter ear mite med.!
Why would your vet need to see ALL your ferrets, if
one has mites, it is only sensible to treat them ALL!
Ivermectin works okay and is not that expensive, but
some of the over the counter meds. are useless and
very time consuming!
We did a study with a 140 ferrets at the Miami shelter
a few years back and treated every ferret with MITA
CLEAR(not recommended by the manufacturer for ferrets)
and the vet himself along with his assistant came to
the house at 5-7 day intervals for 3 times! We cleaned
and adminstered the MITA CLEAR and even after checking
under a microscope there were no mites, a few dead
bodies but that's all!
I was very frustrated as every time a new ferret came
in we would be treating ears and it seemed as if that
was all I did! However after the success of MITA
CLEAR, every time we had a new arrival we bathed it
and treated with the Mita Clear for 3 times and never
had an epidemic again!---Angela.
