Perhaps your ferret is intimidated by the dog's size,
or is there a pssibility that he may be blind and the
odor of the the dog is threatening to him! Since you
said the dog does not bark, it would appear that it is
either the smell or the sight of him that is
frightening the ferret! Also it could be possible that
you may be imputing 'fear' into the ferret, because
you yourself are worried about his reaction!!!
Having a 'golden retriever' of my own I have found him
to be very shy around the ferrets, but he will always
alert me, if a ferret is anywhere it shouldn't be! He
was 2 years old when we got him and had not grown up
with ferrets, but is extremely tolerant of them and
being a very gentle soul will guard them well!
Since your other ferrets do not seem to have a
problem, maybe it would be wise to move the youngster
to another part of the house where it is quiet and he
will feel more protected, you will have to reassure
him that everything is fine, giving him a lot more
attention than usual!
There is a great natural herbal product that we have
used for many years to help ferrets coming into a
shelter environment and to calm fears, it is available
at Healthfood Stores, RESCUE REMEDY and you might want
to give it to both the dog and the ferret, just a drop
or two, it works wonders---Angela.
