Subject: Mast Cell Tumors
Last week, Dillon has a mast cell tumor removed (confirmed by
pathology). All edges were clear. It was located about an
inch behind and below his ear, sort of around the shoulder
area. Doc is recommending that we do a chest x-ray to see
whether it has metasticized (sp). This is a new thing. They
have never recommended x-rays before. He said they're seeing
some nasty ones in dogs and the current teachings are
recommending x-rays for ferrets too. Has anyone heard of
this?
Of course, if it has spread, the course of treatment would be
chemo. Even if we opted not to do chemo, he thinks it would
still be beneficial to know so that symptoms could be watch
for.
For what it's worth, Doc is pretty good about differentiating
between "must know" and "nice to know". He thinks this one is
in between and is leaving it up to me.
Any thoughts?
FWIW, Cedes appears to have one now too! I know they're not
contagious but it sure makes me wonder.
