Subject: Re: Gingivitis

Gingivitis is caused by plaque/tartar build-up on the teeth and
just under the gumline, just like it is in humans. You can help
prevent it by brushing your fuzzy's teeth (good luck, my guys hate
it). Just make sure you use a brush with extra soft bristles and
dont' rub too hard, may make the gums bleed. Don't use human
toothpaste either, use one made for pets. You may have to take them
back to the vet for a dental cleaning under anesthesia if its bad
enough, but brushing will help prevent it from getting worse. I
brush my guys teeth a few times a week.

At our last vet visit, the vet found that Brangwyn has gingivitis
(sp?). Being a bit more conserned about the possible blockage
that
brought us to the vet in the first place, I forgot to ask what can
be done
to help fight the gingivitis. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Brangwyn
& Rhodry are 3 years old, and Nevyn is nearly there, so if this is
a
typical experience of 3 year olds (is it?), then I should probably
take
steps to prevent gingivitis in the other two.
