Subject: Response to question about flooring for cages and ramps

I buy the plastic runners from Home Depot or Loews stores for
the bottoms of the cage as they cover the wiring bottom, are
easily cleaned and can be cut to size. I buy the stair
guards which are made out of carpeting on the top and rubber
like material on the bottom. Then I poke a hole using
scissors thru the step guard and secure to the ramp with a
plastic tie and pull to size, cutting off the excess. The
plastic ties are like the ones that electricians use to bulk
together wiring.

This last for along time, the step guards usually are less
than five dollars and come in packs of twelve. If they get
messy or smelly after being awhile in the cage, I usually
change them every six months or so by cutting the plastic tie
and replacing them with one of the rest of the twelve from the
original package. I would just be sure that there are no
chewers in your bunch and I like this method because the
carpeting on the stair guards is tight commercial grade and I
have not had one nail caught yet.
