Subject: gradual weight loss

However, if the ferret is 7 and you have her for
all those years and it is the first time you notice this
weight loss then I think a thorough exam and blood
test is in order. My friend's ferret had sunken haunches
over a period of a few weeks, and he was slowing down,
on vet check his blood sugar was 37, otherwise he had
no other symptoms.
I would go for the vet exam, and maybe a blood sugar
and other tests depending on what the vet finds.

Curiously, my ferrets did their weight gain in the early fall,
lost a bit over the last 2 months and are just now done
shedding and starting to put on a nice
coat and some weight again- it depends on where you live and
the lighting they live under, etc. I have one that I swear is a different
ferret, not only did her new coat come in thick and darker,
but she is heavier than her normal, and she is 6.
I also think they look fine when they do their seasonal weight
loss, no sunken haunches and they are active and playful,
and have nice fur coats, and bright eyes, etc.
