Subject: renal failure

Hi,

My ferret is in severe renal failure and I was
wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to keep him
comfortable. His eating has been off for weeks now
(only hand fed and even that is getting grim) and I
have noticed he is grinding his teeth alot. Sulcrafate
is not an option due to the aluminum content and his
kidney failure and I had him on omeprazole (losec)
however, this doesn't seem to be doing him any good.
It appears to be getting worse, which could just be
indicating the level of urea in his system is
climbing.

He has severe lung problems as well (thought to be
pneumonia of some sort) however, 6 months of
antibiotics hasn't done him any good. I have him on a
bronchodilator, but now this doesn't seem to be
helping either.

Would zantac be helpful in this situation or pepcid or
perhaps reglan (for the teeth grinding)?

Any suggestions for the renal failure ( I do not think
sub -q fluids is an option for him)?I have been trying
chlorophyll to help remove blood toxins and milk
thistle ( I am desperate) as his liver seemed to be
not digesting fats well(this seems to help alot).

Any suggestions would be great. We have tried all
medical options, but he is doing so poorly now.I know
there is no cure, however, I feel that there must be
more ways out there of helping him stay comfortable.

thanks,
Terri
