Igor is a ferret I rescued from the animal control last Sept '01.
Poor boy had the poops really bad, slim water. So the vet put him on
metrodizonle and pred, to keep him eating. It took it about a month
for it to work but it finally did. He gets if off and on since
then.
This time it started about 3/12. So he's on the meds again plus
amoxi. His stool does get to the paste stage but that's about it.
It
does still stink but isn't slimy or mucousy. We've had him on a
bland
diet of his ground kitten chow and home cooked chicken (everything
cooked togther then ground up), and a little whipping cream. Also
putting ferret-aide (electrolyte replacement) and probi-ontics in
with
it. So we are sticking with a bland diet for him. He gets .2ml of
metrodizonle, .3ml pred and .2 of amoxi daily since 3/12. How long
should he stay on this? Iggy is about 2/3 yrs old. He was crippled
when we got him, back leggs bend outward. Spine is fine, but we
don't
have any history on him. Someone turned him lose in the wilds of
Alaska. We did have a stool sample sent out for results and it
pointed
to a helibector infection. He hasn't been strong enough to try and
do
a biopsy. He weights about 1lb 4 oz and maintaining at that. In
between these flair ups he's been as heavy as 3lbs. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
