Subject: Re: (liquid) heartworm preventatives

I'm going to start my ferret on the heartworm preventative, however,
since he was found outdoors and I have no idea of his past. I know in
dogs they say to never give the preventative if the dog may be
heartworm positive. But I thought I had read that cats and ferrets
could take it anyway.

I need to give him preventative because I live in the southern US. If
he does need to be tested, can the vet just use the same test they use
for dogs...or does it need to be a different test?

thanks,

Melissa
