Subject: serious wheeze

Hello,
i need some serious and quick advice for one of my 4 fuzzies.

Koto, my largest male, has had a chest cold for over two weeks
now..... last night he was wheezing very badly, and at 4 am this
morning, i gave in, and in desperation, gave him a breathing
treatment ( i have very severe asthma, and use a nebulizer, so i set
it up with an infant dose of albuterol, put him in a covered travel
cage, and ran the treatment) This seems to have helped some, the
wheezing has been much less noticable but this is not something i
would want to do on a regular basis, because i am not sure if it is a
good thing to do for him.

My biggest problem is this, there are no ferret vets in this area,
the closest is two hours away, and while i don't mind driving him
that far to the vet, she can't get him in for another two weeks.
I have a very friendly, older vet in this area, but as he says his
knowledge of ferrets wouldn't fill a thimble. He is, however, the vet
that orders my lupron for my oldest female, although he does this as
a favor to me, and with Dr Weiss's lupron protocol in hand.

Can someone give me some suggestions as to what i can do to help my
ferret? Perhaps an infant cold drop of some kind? Something? And how
about the nebulizer? i hated doing that, but when his wheezing wakes
me up, and since i know what it is like to not be able to breathe, i
really was a very frightened mom this morning.
