Subject: adrenal surgery cost & lupron

Hi, got a question. 2 of my ferrets need adrenal surgery and have
been on Lupron for ~3 months. I called a another vet, through my
regular vet, and they can do cryosurgery if necessary. He quoted me
a cost of $650 to $750 and this is what was said in the e-mail back
to me: Without shortcuts or complications, our practice averages
$650-$750, which includes: surgery, anesthesia, postop pain mgmt., IV
line, IV Fluids, antibiotic injections, two nights intesive care
(usually I take them home with me the first PM), 2 days hand feeding,
oral antibiotics and prednisone (to give at home), and biopsy report.

I had another one of my ferrets in for surgery in another location to
get his speen removed and it cost me a little over $300. Now, I know
it is new and expensive equipment that they are using, but I am
wondering on how that cost compares.

I live in Charlotte, NC and the surgery will be done in Raleigh NC.
It is s amore expensive area, and the vet is willing to work with me
on payments, but if anyone can let me know on the cost, I would
appreciate it. Also, should I stop Lupron before the surgery, and if
so, how long.

Thanks, Judi
