Subject: Orapred was a flop

Well,

Based upon info I found here on the FHL from a ferret-owned
pharmacist, I decided to try the Orapred. Molly hates it! Turned
inside out. So after spending $32.00 on yet another prescription that
I can't get a ferret to take, I am back to popping the pills to the
back of her throat. At least it's quick, and if I get it just right,
she doesn't taste anything.

Yesterday, the diarrhea flared up horribly, in response to the drug
as well. Any idea why Orapred didn't have the same effect as straight
prednisone, in keeping the IBD under control?

Also, my vet suggested giving her 1 cc Mylanta prior to meals to help
with the bloating and gas she is getting. Of coarse, she hated that
too, even if it was cherry flavored. I haven't given her any more,
because I'm afraid that might have caused the diarrhea to worsen as
well. So from now on, my motto is...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Wednesday she was doing great...gave her first dose of .4 ml Orapred
that night. Thursday morning..stool a little soft. Gave Mylanta,
soup, then Orapred. Fed her again at 11:00 AM and left for a day of
errands. Came home at 5:30 to litter boxes full of nasty, squirts of
diarrhea...both inside and over the edges of the boxes. She was
dehydrated, too. All because I had to play around with meds.

So, now I'm just hoping that things will just go back to normal. She
won't eat any kibble. Thought I might try grinding up some Z/D and
start adding incrementally to her soup. Then again, maybe I should
just leave well enough alone.
