On the contrary. My ferrets definatly get the human common cold, as in the winter time we pass it back an forth.

This ferret needs a vet appointment, x-rays, and very possibly

prescription medications.

It could be cardiomyopathy, could be pneumonia, could even be
asthma.

This is NOT something that you can handle with OTCs and
some of those can kill the ferret, as can a respiratory
problem
serious enough to cause wheezing or serious coughing.

Meanwhile do not use your meds on the ferret, but do use plain

steam to help the ferret cough out garbage.
