This post which I have quoted in part by ferret expert and
veterinary pathologist, Dr. Bruce Williams, may help. It is just
from a few weeks ago on February 10th of this year, and can be
found by using the archives to search under "colds" or by going
diriectly to post # 10945:

Certainly, humans can give each other influenza, and I recall a
space of three months when we traded a bacterial sinus
infection back and forth.
They can be extremely hard ot tell apart from superfiscial
characteristics if mild...
