Subject: Baby ferret nursing formula????
I recently went into a pet store and was shocked to find a very small
ferret. I had to have him. Not just because he was so small, but
after holding him and cuddling his tiny little body, I noticed that
he has hardly has any teeth at all! I was so afraid that someone who
had no experience at all with ferrets would purchase him. The
youngest ferret that I have added to our family so far has been 10
weeks old and they have all eaten moistened food with some baby
chicken food added until they could chomp the hard stuff alone. I
purchased Stewart on 4-13-02. His papers arent like my other ones.
They all say that the ferret should have their NEXT shots at such and
such date. Stewarts papers say that he should have his first shots
on 5-08-02. He has been adopted by Lucy (Yes, the one that the vet
said was blind and had rabies) and she grooms him and cuddles with
him all of the time. She hates for anyone to be around him and will
even hide him when they approach to close. The problem is that he
cries when he is hungry and even soaking the food to make it soft
doesnt seem to help him. He cries while eating and afterwards while
cuddling Lucy. He wants to nurse! What type of formula do you feed
baby ferrets? I know how severe the milk product reaction is with
them so I am afraid to just try anything. I know that goatmilk works
well with kittens, puppies, squirrels, and raccoons. Thanks so much,
any help will make Stewart a much happier baby. (He will take a
bottle very happily. I mixed his baby food and crunched dry kibble
very thin and he gobbled it down)
