Subject: Urgent, internal bleeding!

Hello, I tried to post yesterday about our 6 year old female,
Phoebe. We thought she had a cold. On Thursday, in the evening she
started coughing a little. It sounded like a hair ball or something
and it also sounded like her nose was stuffed up. Friday eve she
was coughing more and regurgitated a little water. She was not
eating well, but drinking and begging for treats. She breaths very
oddly, like a ferret with a cold. Her lungs are clear. We gave her
some benadryl twice, it did not seem to help. When she is asleep
she breaths normally? At 2am this morning she had blood in her
stool (dark) she has had three others since then. She also spit up
some treats with a little red blood. She is drinking a lot so she
is hydrated. Last time I gave her treats she started tooth
grinding. She has had many problems throughout her life, most have
been near death experiences. She had a bleeding ulcer many years
ago after her first adrenal surgery. No vet will see us today, they
recommended carafate, amoxi until we can see a ferret knowledgeable
vet tomorrow. Our back up vet is on vacation! And as usual it is
SUNDAY! Phoebe is strong, she is a fighter, but I am terrifyed that
this is it. I have delt with ulcers before. They do not usually
start with coughing? I think she is also hypersalivating? How do I
know where the bleeding is coming from? How do I stop it? She also
has a history of severe episodes of diarrhea which she had really
bad on Thursday? I can never make sense of it when she gets sick.
I adore her, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do have
another ferret in the house being treated for an ulcer? I think she
may have gotten food stuck or it irritated her esophagus and the
coughing started the bleeding? She had a banana chip shortly before
she became ill?

Thank You,
Kelly
