Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] FERRET FELL FROM 4TH FLOOR!!!

Yikes!!!

first and critical are:

how is her color? (are gums nice and pink?)
how is her breathing? regular, deep, shallow, fast, slow?
is she eating/drinking?
is she dehydrated? (if you pinch up the skin over her shoulders, does
it pop back down, or take a bit?)
can you get her to be active?
is there anything different about the way she moves?

Unfortunately, you can't see pupils on ferts, to see if they are
dilated, but I would make repeated observations of the above things,
and anything else you see. keep a chart. Hopefully the little critter
is ok, but if the vet is not ferret friendly, that is a dismissive
treatment I have seen with animals that are 'smaller than a breadbox'.
I would be most concerned about concussion-like injuries, and chest-
lung injuries (pneumothorax). keep in mind the weekend is here, you
are better addressing issues while the office is open, and line up a 24
hour place if you do not yet have one. if there seems to be a problem,
do NOT wait it out.

good luck
