Subject: Very sick ferret

I work for a vet and we do not specialize in ferrets but we have had
a peculiar case come in tonight. I do not have a lot of information
but I will tell you what I know.
The ferret is middle-aged, female, and appears to have been in good
health prior to becoming ill. She became lost in the basement of her
home for a couple of days and after she was located, she had little
appetite. She is dehydrated, running a slight fever (103F), and very
lethargic. She does twitch a bit, but there is no pronounced seizure
activity. She can move her back legs but shows no desire to get up
and move about. Her blood glucose was 211. The current owners have
had her for about 6 months and there is no prior medical history.
The vaccinations have not been updated since the new owners have been
caring for her. There is another ferret in the home that seems to be
fine as of now.
We have given her lactated ringers subcutaneously, approx. 100ml. We
also gave an injection of amoxicillin. She is currently resting
nestled in towels.
If anyone has any ideas about what is going on or what we should
check or do next please let me know. Any and all help is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Erica and her fuzzy crew
