I know that AD is a wet food and all wet foods are
about 75% moisture but percentages reported are based
on dry matter. You will get more nutrition into a kit
by making a gruel with ground dry food and formula
than you will feeding AD. AD was designed for
debilitated animals; animals recovering from surgery;
or severe GI disease that need to be weaned back on a
normal diet (fed on a short term basis). It was not
designed for growing kits that have very different
nutritional needs.
You can call Hills at 1-800-445-5777 or go to their
website at hillspet.com for more information on AD.
They will gladly send you a copy of thier booklet
which lists thier diets and their uses. It is very
informative.
I have the Hills representative visit my Animal
Nutrition class every semester. They do not even
recommend to my vet students to keep an adult animal
on AD for very long because it is not nutritionally
balanced. The reason why the Science Diets are only
sold through veterinarians is so that the general
public does not put their animal on an formulated diet
that does not meet an animals nutritional needs.

[Moderator's note: the original mention of a/d was mine and was mentioned as a treat to get the ferret used to an assortment of useful foods that may be needed later in life. No one spoke of a/d as a primary food for kits. So, warning noted, and use type should also be noted, and now it's best to drop this topic. -- Sukie]
