Subject: your opinion please........

Hi Everyone,

I just got word back from my vet. He says that my area (Mississauga,
ON CANADA) has a low rate of heartworm cases. Therefore, he believes
that my ferrets are fine since, they never go out (Heartworms are
passed on through misquitos). The meds he said I could use on my
ferrets if I wanted to protect them is "HEARTGUARD BLUE CHEWABLE" for
dogs. I'd have to cut them into 1/4 pieces for each ferret and give
it to them at the beginning of every month from June to November.
But, before I could do that I would have to have blood tests taken of
each ferret to insure that they don't have it already. This is
because if they do, the medication will only make them sicker or it
can be fatal.

The medication, up here anyways is $17.50cdn for a pack of 6. In my
case, I would need two packs for 6 ferrets, $ 36.00cdn. The blood
tests would cost me $35.00cdn per ferret. What do you guys think?
I'm not sure.......

Funds are in short supply here...not to mention the dookies are due
for there annual shots next month which is going to cost me $
280.00cdn.
