Subject: Surgical update on Khali - Antibiotic question?

Khali has surgery yesterday afternoon and let me start by saying she
came through surgery just fine. With that out of the way, here's the
scoop.

My vet didn't see anything out of the ordinary with the uterine stump
that was in there. She removed it anyway just in case. She then
went up to look at the adrenals per my request. Khali did have the
typical adrenal looking coat with the shiny, flaky skin. She'd also
started becoming aggressive but I was hoping it wasn't adrenal
disease since she's only 1 and came from a breeder in Columbus. Long
story short, Khali had bilateral tumors on her glands. Her left
gland was removed and right one was cryo'ed. The doctor said that
her right gland tumor was the size of a chick pea and she was quite
surpised at the size of the tumors considering Khali is only 1.

She is recovering at home now. She's very sored and tired, of
course, but hopefully will be back to normal after her recovery. I
do have one quick question though - is it better (in her case) to
treat with Amoxi or Clavamox postop? The culture and sensitivity
came back that her infection is responsive to clavamox but since
she's postop, she was actually put on Amoxi. Is there any reason one
would be better than the other? I have the option to use either
one.

Thanks for everyone's help and well wishes!

Sincerely,
Erin

[Quick note: it will pay to have a schedule for checking her for electrolyte balances in case she winds up needing Florinef and Pred to replace adrenal products, or alternatives. You and your vet probably have that under control but since you didn't mention it I figured that I would, in case. -- Sukie]
