Is it possible that the irritation might have also caused some
temporary pancreatitis? We've certainly seen temporary
hepatitis in one who had a blockage that needed to come out.

Different species, but when Dad's gallbladder tried to pass a
stone that was too large my sister found him unconscious with
that, and secondary inflammation of both his pancreas and his
liver. Sometimes problems with a nearby organ or a
communicating one can have affects on other structures.
