Subject: Re: Bob C: Vets and Veterinary Costs

Bravo Bob!

I just wanted to add that when a person finds a good vet, then the last
thing they should be doing is trying to finagle lower costs. If they
have the experience you need, then your ferrets will only benefit in the
long run and the overall cost would probably be lower by the vet being
involved from the very beginning instead of being used only when there
is an emergency. Vets are there to assist us to help care for our
critters from the get go... they certainly cannot be blamed, nor should
they be penalized for our lack of foresight or unwillingness to have
them looked over on a regular basis.

I love my vet but it took time to find a good one. He is a person who
has a genuine love of animals and for those who care about the animals
under their care. He is constantly giving me breaks on pricing even
though he doesn't have to, nor do I expect it, but I am grateful for
every time he does it. He knows what is in my heart, and knows that I
would sell the clothes off of my back to give my ferrets what they need,
but he also knows that my love for ferrets extends beyond my own front
door. He calls me an angel, but I must admit that he is my angel. If it
weren't for his willingness to try things, to go the extra mile, to stay
late when I need him to, to advise me and guide me, that I would be
truly lost. And he doesn't get paid for that.

He doesn't have to teach me anything, but he does. He doesn't have to
walk me through things so that I understand it better from a vet's point
of view. I ask hard questions and ask of him weird requests, but he
obliges even though he doesn't have to. He is worth more than gold and I
am already worried about losing him even though he is a relatively young
man (mid 40's). I joke with him about cloning, but he doesn't realize I
am very serious about it. But I also know that the vets that join him in
his practice will also benefit from his knowledge, and I can hope that
they will share his compassion and wisdom. And that too, is something we
will never be able to reimburse him for....

We need to appreciate our vets for the task they do is not an easy one.
So when you find a good one, show them your appreciation by complaining
less about the costs of things and talk more on what good people they
truly are. Because what goes around... comes around...
