Subject: Hypothyroidism

Does anyone know if ferrets are subject to the same type of thyroid
disorders as dogs? I know that hypothyroidism in dogs can cause
hairloss or rat tail, itchy scaly skin, weight gain and joint
stiffness (among other things.) I have a male ferret with all of the
above. I tested him twice with the Tenn Panel, both times negative
for any adrenal condition. I originally thought it could be a flea
alergy dermatitis, but the fleas have been long gone since the
introduction of Advantage. He is three years old and has had
symptoms for two years now. He has sparce hair, itchy skin, stiff
joint, and a round, solid, rigid abdomen. He has been seen by 3
different vets, none of which can find a cause. Should I suggest a
thyroid test or is that unheard of ?
