Subject: very sick ferret

My ferret is 1 year old and i think she got into a bag of weed and
feed by scotts. The vet seems to be guessing. She so far has said
distemper, poisoning or an intestinal obstruction. Her xray showed
nothing. She wants to do exploratory surgery in am! My question is
does it sound like poisoning? She possibly got into the garage where I
found an open bag of weed and feed. Her symptoms are lethargy, no
appetite, labored breathing, painful stomach(according to the
vet),crusty eyes. It happened suddenly. Ther has been no noticed
vomiting or diarhea which is why she thinks its an obstruction. Can
anybody help me out with some advice?

[Two posts combined. Second post:]

My ferret is very sick and in an animal hospital Symptoms are rapid
onset of symptoms, lethargy, crusty eyes, labored breathing, no
appetite, however no vomiting or diarhea. The vet says she has pain in
her stomach as well. She may have gotten into Scotts weed and feed!
The vet thinks she should do exploratory surgery, or that she is
poisoned or has distemper! Does anybody know if its possible she is
poisoned but not vomitting or having diarhea because she hasnt eaten
since she became ill? Any advice is welcome!

and find the animal poison control number then have your vet call them or call them yourself and then pass n thier number and the info to your vet (since your vet may know something addtional which requires a repeat phonecall). Did your ferret have the full kit series of three canine distemper shots and did hte ferret get a booster shot this year?-- Sukie]
