Have you and your vet considered IBD? While he was in surgery, was a
biopsy of the bowel done?
WHat you describe sounds very much like IBD, and it could have been
triggered by the coccidia.
Treatment for IBD is usually prednisone or Imuran, and sometimes an
antibiotic like Flagyl is needed, too. Also, try feeding foods that
are easily digestable like chicken or turkey baby food. Since you
mention he is also now pawing at his mough, he may have developed
ulcers in addition.
I am not a vet, but I do have 2 furkids with IBD. With medication,
we are able to control it fairly well, and they are doing well.
Check the files section of the FHL website. There is an article
there by Dr. Mark Burgess on IBD that is very good. The current
issue of Ferrets magazine also contains an article on IBD - by Dr.
Williams.
I hope Moose starts to improve.
