Subject: Question about Ulcers, Heliocobactor and the food Annika
should eat

Hi,
I have been running through the archives trying to gather information on gastric ulcers in ferrets, I have also been websurfing. Annika
was put on Famotidine (which I find out is an antacid, but is "commonly used to treat Heliocobacter"; Clavamox and Metronidazole. Now I
am reading information that is suggesting this is not the best treatment. I worry when I hear that if she has Heliocobacter that she
should not be having an antacid. Should I be going to my vet? Annika was never given pepto bismol which from what I read would have
completed the normal course of action. Annika suffered all the neurological side effects associated with metronidazole (woozy, trouble
with balance, head tilt, you name it she got it) and so it was removed, but nothing was given to replace it. The more I read the more
concerned I am getting that she is not getting proper care. I know my vet is the best Ferret vet on the Vancouver Island, so I am sure
she is doing whatever she can, but I am worried. Annika has been eating a homemade duck soup recipe that includes her kibble (Zupreem),
a can of ensure plus, a jar of chicken and a broth baby food. All of this is mixed and soaked with water and then put into the blender and
turned into mush. I have frozen it in ice cube trays (each hold a little more then 10 cc's) and then thaw it as needed. She is eating
between 3 and 4 of these cubes a day. I am mixing in some Ferretvite (about 1/2 teaspoon) twice a day. Is this a bland diet? Anyone
with experience with ulcers with advice to give I would gladly recieve it.
Thank you to the entire list in advance,
Jenn
