I am sorry for your loss of Calvin.

the roof of the mouth?

I've had two ferrets that developed bleeding "wounds" on the roof of
their mouth. Neither one responded to traditional treatments. My vet
successfully used a silver nitrate stick to stop the bleeding.
Because it is an uncomfortable procedure, they briefly gassed the
ferret. In fact, I had this done for Captain about a month ago.

My understanding is that the sores *can* be cauterized but it
requires using electricity, metal plates, and ground therefore is a
more risky procedure. Since the silver nitrate worked, we didn't have
to consider this option.

I wished I had known about your situation and I would have suggested
this earlier. Again, my condolences.
