Subject: Spleen in 2 pieces

Yikes. Trevor's exploratory is complete, but the questions are not
answered. Several areas were suspicious and have been biopsied.
However, most noteworthy, his spleen was in two completely separated
pieces. She said it looked as though the two could actually fit
right back together. Has anyone ever heard of this before??

Aside from that, he is really not doing well. His food is apparently
not being absorbed and he is falling away. He's down to 1.4 lbs and
has NO fat on him at all. She also noticed a few thickened lymph
nodes.
I suggested IBD and hopefully the biopsy will tell.

Meanwhile, I'm very intriqued by the spleen issue. If it had been
caused by an earlier trauma, how could he have survived that, and
what kind of trauma could render a spleen parted down the middle??

[Ah, a topic for the search engine at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-list .
I think you'll find two discussions (mulitple posts each) on the topic. I know that several people encountered it, though it is rare, and that at least one vet told how it can occur, but I do not recall how and why, so I need to search and re-read to on this. -- Sukie]
