I am not a vet, but that sounds to me just like a condition which is
called "footrot". It is caused by an infestation of sarcoptes scabiei,
or sarcoptic mange. I'm told it is usually not possible to get mites for
a microscope by scraping, you just have to treat on appearance and is
the treatment works, that was it. The treatment is Ivermectin (0.2 to
0.4 mg/kg SC) every 14 days until clinical signs are resolved.
