Hi Wolfy! Just wanted to pipe up here -------------
I insured my little girl Amira last July with X Y
Insurance. I was VERY glad to finally have someone on it, especially
since all my other ferrets would have been denied for pre-existing
conditions. Amira had just turned one year old on June 14th. She
was accepted and given a policy number since she had no pre-existing
conditions. I started paying $13 a month for her.
In the middle of August, she had a bilateral adrenalectomy. After I
organized my claim paperwork, got signatures and copies of all her
prior appointments with vets (which consisted of a few booster shots,
a rabies vaccine and a check up), I submitted her claim in the second
week of October. Her vet bill was $757 for this surgery. According
to the insurance, they would reimburse me for everything but the $50
deductible.
It took forever to hear back from them! I was told, "They are
reviewing your claim," or "They need additional information,"
or "They are waiting for the vet to return our survey on her care."
After MONTHS of calling them and getting multiple different excuses,
I got a letter in the mail in early February (almost 4 months later)
stating they would NOT cover Amira's surgical expenses! THEY
determined that she had adrenal disease prior to her policy with them
and the policy would not cover a pre-existing condition! Therefore,
no reimbursement of $707! It was ----------!
I WILL NOT and WILL NEVER recommend ----------. Yes,
I'm irritated and that's an understatement! What is a policy for if
not to protect the policy holder? It seems to me that they have the
ability to pick and choose what they would LIKE to cover and you (as
the customer) will just have to deal with it. Especially since
you've already paid for it out of pocket!
Save your money, the hassle, the frustration of organizing everything
so they can tell you "No Money!" Put your $13 a month aside in a
bank account, it'll be much easier in the long run. If you want more
details, please feel free to write to me privately. I'm still
irritated with this whole mess, but I'm sure that's not at ALL
obvious by this email. :)
Sincerely,
Erin
PS. And Amira is doing beautifully now, no thanks to them!
