Subject: Prepucial adenocarcinoma

I have a MF Male who is turning 6 also. In October he was diagnosed with
Prepucial Adenocarcinoma. Everything I read and researched, as well as the
vet's comments stated that it is an agressive cancer. I was also told that
the tumors are often related to overproduction of hormones and adrenal
disease (same as you). I was advised by well meaning friends to consider
the fact that it is "agressive" and their experiences have not been
positive. I had also read a post somewhere where someone has a ferret who
has been through all this and is still doing well, has required multiple
surgeries but is doing well.

I went with the tumor removal, adrenal surgery and the PU Surgery...many $
later and six months have passed and my Critter is looking better than he
has in 4 years! I've been waiting and watching and I have actually seen a
blister on his prepuce that very well may be the return of the cancer (I
haven't had the vet check it out yet)...but he seems to be doing well.

I had many problems with the surgery though...Critter came through the
surgery so well that they sent him home two days later which was a Friday.
By Saturday he had pulled out his cathetor and I rushed him to the emergeyc
vet's office. By Sunday he ended up pulling htat one out as well. By
Monday he was urinating out of both places...so I rushed him back to the
vet who said all was fine and that Ferrets who have had this surgery may
urniate out of both places. At that point I got pain meds for my guy,
cause he was in agony...imagine the pain of urinating through an open
wound...anyway he is doing great at this point and even if his cancer has
returned, the past six months of his life have been high quality.

Good luck

Amy
