Subject: seedy poo health supplement

I posted last week about my ferret who had loose seedy looking poo.
I took him for a health check at the vets and because he looks fit
and well, the vet prefered not to do anything unless symptoms got
worse (that's the UK for you!!!). I will get a second opinion from
another vet that I see. But anyhow, in general Tilbury seems well
enough within himself.

Anyhow, I prefer 100% well rather than 90% well, so I looked into a
supplement for his diet and came up with Slippery elm bark. I've
only tried it for 2 days, so hardly a conclusive experiment, but in
those two days his poo is in a normal formed shaped (albeit still
seedy looking) rather than a runny pool. By coating his stomach with
a mucus membrane from the bark it's meant to sooth the stomach and
retain food for longer, thereby having better absorption. See below

Slippery Elm (Digestive, Intestinal helps relieve digestive
discomfort and provides mucilage to soothe the digestive tract. It
grows widely throughout North America and is also known by the names
Red Elm, Moose Elm and Indian Elm.

The plant contains mucilage, a long chain of sugars (polysaccharides)
that make a slippery substance when combined with water. This
mucilage is believed to soothe the digestive system. Slippery elm is
also rich in nutrients and is easy to digest, making it an excellent
food during times of digestive discomfort.
