Subject: IBD / lymphoma??

Trevor underwent exploratory sugery last wednesday and a biopsy of
his "inflamed" intestine was taken. While awaiting the results of
the biopsy, we have been treating him with metronidizole and baytril,
along with force feeding chicken baby food and cream every 4 -5 hrs.
Since beginning this treatment he has maintained his weight at 1.5
lbs. He still grinds his teeth and tries to spit out his food when I
feed him. He still suffers from severe diahrrea which began to clear
up (pudding like) over the first two days but then seemed to only get
worse (pure liquid with a few "seeds") after six days on the
metronidizole.

The biopsy results were inconclusive - the pathologist could not make
the call between IBD and lymphoma. Of course, my fear is that it may
actually be both. Unfortunately, the vet took a biopsy of a node in
the abdomin that looked enlarged while she was in there, but the
sample was somehow "lost" between the office and the lab. Therefore,
it was not part of the puzzle when trying to make the call. And,
after 4 unsuccessful attempts to draw blood, they have no CBC to go
by. He is there agaain today for another try, as well as a possible
biopsy of a lymph node in the hind leg.

He is in a very weakened state and could never tolerate chemo, so
regardless of the differentials in the diagnosis, I would presume
prednisone would be the best option either way. (??)

What can I look for to determine if this is IBD or lymphoma, or both
and should he be started on pred and taken off metro?

Thanks,
Nicole
