Subject: PLEASE...Help...

Thank you all so much for the replys.
To answer some of your questions, the fecal exam showed nothing. He has
no parasites, ECE , Giardia or Coccidia. Also, none of my other ferrets
are having any problems and all the human members in the family are
well.
Codey has had problems in the past with his intestines. When I lost my
first ferret almost 2 years ago to cancer, Codey started to hemorrhage
rectally. No diarrhea, just blood.
The vet thought it might have been a polyp but with medicine and
hospital care the bleeding stopped and he's never had a recurrence. He
does have occasional bouts of diarrhea but it never lasted more than a
couple of days.
No tumors were found and his organs are a normal size. My vet started
him on Kaopectate today to see if it would stop the diarrhea. The
problem besides the diarrhea is the BUN and creatinine levels. Instead
of improving with the high dose of pred and fluids, they have risen.
He's still urinating but it's mostly water because of the IV drip. His
glucose has also dropped today into the 20's, it was in the 60's
yesterday.
Direct e-mails, greatly appreciated...any ideas suggestions will be
transmitted to my vet. I am not ready to give up on Codey and I don't
think Codey is either. All input will be greatly appreciated negative or
positive, it will help me make the right decisions.
Thank you,
Carol

[Just 2 quick notes: vets can't check for ECE at all easily. It takes a very specialized and expensive test that is still only available to the researchers working on the disease. That is one reason for research, to eventually have tests that are widely spread as well as improved approaches. If someone has samples, though, use the search engine to find contact info by looking for the name Matti Kuipel (Kiupel?)

There are useful pieces of info in teh archives about kidney disease and the search engine will help you. Also search "Champ". --Sukie]
