Subject: ferret eating
I have no idea whether this will help.
My male ferret was a poor eater. It seemed like he would wait
till
he was starving then dive in, eat kibble (without much
enjoyment but sort of grimly)
till he had a minimum then stop.
This went on for years. I was pretty sure it was heliobacter
ulcers and every so
often would try a round of the recommended antiobiotics. No
dice. Couldn't figure
out anything else it could be.
Finally, after several years and many rounds they seemed to
work and he is a better eater
and put on some weight. (Boris was a loner and easy to
overlook - I made a very pointed effort to start tracking him
down for regular love sessions and to always always do very
happy baby talk every time I saw him - is that why the
antiobiotics helped finally? I think so)
I think his reluctance to eat was because he associated the
food with the discomfort he felt after eating?
He also seemed to like low fat dog biscuits.
Maybe the vets can comment but it seemed like the less rich
the food the more likely he was to eat it (cheap cat food ,
dog biscuitsetc.)
