Subject: Re: Update on Bandit Post Adrenal Poster Boy

Diane......I would be careful in choosing to operate again. My
ferret, Buddy (girl) had her right adrenal gland cryo'd in Apr
2000. Her fur never did grow back either and she lost more on her
body, finally my vet suggested melatonin therapy and we did it for
months but it never did grow back her hair. Other than her hairloss
she seemed fine, but in my desire to have her hair grow back I made
a fatal decision to do a second surgery. I sould have left well
enough alone because she died Nov. 15, 2000 from a bloodclot less
than 12 hrs after surgery. My vet opened her up to find out there
was nothing wrong with her adrenal gland, so he closed her up. If I
had done a blood test I would have known she had a clotting problem
and I could have avoided sending her to her death for nothing. Till
this day I hate myself for sending her in for a surgery she never
needed. I loved her so much and I miss her terribly. My other
ferrets grieved for her. She was only 3.5 yrs old and should have
had many more years here with us. I have read since Buddys death
that sometimes they never grow their hair back even after a
succesful surgery. My vanity for my ferret ending up killing her.
