Subject: Hairgrowth post surgery

Logic tells me that in a warm climate there will be little hairgrowth
even after surgery for something unrelated to adrenal until triggered
by daylength changes. I am not sure how administering melatonin in
the absence of functioning adrenal tissue would affect this either
positively or negatively.
I have experienced several ferrets who have been shaved for surgery
unrelated to adrenal problems - spaying, caesarian, abdominal
blockage by foreign body, etc - and all of them have waited until the
season (and day-length) changed. As for ferrets which are totally
indoor ferrets and don't undergo daylength cycles - I would imagine
that in itself would delay hair regrowth.
