the way my vet explained it to me pred does nothing to the
growing pancreatic tumors, they'll continue growing and the pred
may mask the symptoms of insulinoma. surgery, to him is the
best option available. if the ferret is not going to do well on pred,
then why not surgery? Belle was almost 6 when she had hers a
year ago and did well without pred for 10 months. The vet
preferred to have the symptons of recurrent insulinoma
unmasked. pred can have so many side effects, i don't even
want to take it for arthritis. It can cause behavior changes also.
the 4 weeks Belle was on it, she was in manic behavior. She
had a second surgery, for the pancreas, right adrenal (laser
surgery) and gastrotomy. We'll see how she does. The vet also
noticed that the pred had affected her spleen. Ferrets seem to
be good surgery candidates, if a good skilled surgeon performs
it. We were llucky to find him.
