Subject: Just a warning about "self/diagnosis & treatment"
Hi all...
We have a 7plus yr old ferret,Solita who has been the picture of health
despite her dbl adrenal removal a year ago..
She weighs in at a whopping 1.6 lbs<she's tiny> (looks funny next to our
5 lb hob) but does have that cute lil pear shaped figure that the older
kids get...;)
A couple of months ago we noticed her "lymph" nodes in her neck were
expanding.She had almost developed a collar around her neck.Her
remaining hind leg lymph felt huge as well.A similar situation arose a
year prior but that biopsy (Dr Williams) proved nothing...just fat..
(in fact when we had her adrenals removed he just cut the blood supply
off
to the right one <cryo> because there was so much fat he could not even
find it)
I called around & the best price from a Vet i could trust for rear leg
lymph removal was $400.00...(TRUE STORY!)
Knowing THAT was whacko..i decided to self treat first.
SOOOO,since i have "access" to ferret meds i started with Clavamox then
Baytril
No success...(of coarse i'm thinkin' lympho;(
We were adopting another ferret from an out of State Shelter so we
brought along "the family" (6 others)
Shelter Mom Chris,took one look at Solita & said "those aren't her
lymphs...just fat! Is she prone to fat deposits?" DUH....
My point?
Solita was given 2 powerful antibiotics she did NOT need..
Plus...i'm not sure..but i BET those "fat deposits" would have been
removed,then biopsied to a great expense if i had gone in like i was
going to and said we need a lymph removal for biopsy...(that's what
happened the year,prior) Dr Williams biopsied "fat deposits"
My idea...do your homework,go in mum..
Let the Vet tell you what it is FIRST...
Am i the "only" dummy here...Jeeze!
