If you need an animal to gain weight you should get the Wysong
Archetype diet. It says that it is for dogs and cats on the label
but really it is a very special original food that is formulated for
carnivores. It is like no other food available for companion
animals. The Archetype diet can be rehydrated with water to make a
nutricous porage that can be hand fed if needed or it can be fed
dry. It is soft mostly and if broken up is very easy for a ferret to
eat. It is very high protein and has as much fat or more than most
ferret foods. You can learn more about it here:

I don't know if it is best to just feed this food to ferrets or not
or about the raw foods diet. I have been feeding my fers the
Archetype diet, Innova Feline and Eagle Pack Super Premium ferret
diet mixed together. Also good foods are 8in1 Pro Super Premium
Ultimate Ferret Diet, Wysong Nurture Feline diet, and Path Valley
Farms ferret diet. I wouldn't feed my ferret Marshall's, Totally
Ferret, Mazuri, or Zupreem or the like. Why? They all contain
by-products and questionable materials. By-products is the waste
from the agriculture business and slaughterhouses and can cause a
vast array of health problems and early death. Wysong, Innova, Eagle
Pack, and the 8in1 Ultimate aren't made out of byproducts and
contain much healthier ingrediants and natural preservatives. Also
the Wysong canned whole meat and organ diet is totally for
carnivores and can be given to ferrets as an additive to their diet.
I wouldn't reccomend any of the canned ferret foods as the ones
I've seen had by-products in them and the like. It would be good to
talk to a vet about special vitamins for your ferret to help him and
get his mouth tested. Ferret's mouths can be brushed and cleansed
and should be on a regular basis to keep their teeth in good
condition. Just eating hard kibble isn't going to keep their teeth
clean. It'd be like you just eating hard grain crackers and not
brushing your teeth. Eventually you'd get cavities. Giving cooked
pieces of stew meat from time to time is good for a ferret's mouth,
although isn't like burshing the teeth, and also supplies added
nutrition. Wholesome foods made with the best ingrediants possible
with occasional fresh cooked meat added to the fers diet is the best
way to go. Your poor ferret friend needs to start eating better,
then he will feel and look much better. His body must have suffered
quite a bit from being fed a poor diet, but you can help his body a
lot by giving him a variety of healthy foods.
