Subject: Re: want to adopt a 3 year old ferret in am

Can't speak for the lump, could be nothing, could be something. If
she's in a shelter then the sheltermom or dad should have some idea
and be willing to let you take her to a vet before committing to
keeping her forever. Afterall, if the pairing doesn't workout, I'm
assuming the shelter wants her back and not dumped.

As for adopting a rescue, all but one of mine have been rescues and
they are wonderful, loving, terrific fuzzykids. Sometimes there is
abuse or neglect in their background that, occassionally, makes them
quirky towards kids, or a particular gender (one of mine avoids my
husband and trembles when he holds him) but with love and a stable
home they can usually get over it. I've more often heard that
adoptees gourge themselves on food or hide food, maybe because there
wasn't enough where they were raised. I wouldn't trade one of my
rescues for all of the brand new kits in the world. Plus you get
the warm feeling of giving a loving home to somebody who missed out
on that the first time around, and its a great lesson for your kids.
My twelve year old loves to look at the new kits in the petstore
but she insists we only rescue, because the new kits are so cute
everybody wants them but once they're not so cute people get tired
or bored with them and, in her words "that just stinks!"

Sorry for the ramble.
Hope you open your hearts and home to one or two rescues - can't
imagine you'll regret it.
