Subject: New here... NEED INFO ASAP!
I'll just get right to the problem and worry about introductions
later.
Ferret, my fe'et, is very ill. Here are her symptoms:
Lack of appetite,
Very rapid weight loss,
Vomiting,
Intermitent diarrhea,
Dry hair,
Recent hair loss - one large patch on the back of her neck and
shoulders, some regrowth is now present,
Lethargy,
Her breath smells mediciney, an alchohol type smell, like a dr's
office smell.
And she occassionally acts as though something is in her mouth...
chewing motion. It sounds like she is chewing her cheek or tounge.
I have tried to look inside her mouth, but she resists and I can't
see much of anything. She is a very small [Marshall Farms] ferret
and currently very fragile, so I am trying to avoid stressing her
anymore than necessary.
I am currently giving her a mixture of KMR and Nutrical with a
syringe followed by water lightly laced with Poly-Vi-Sol [infant
vitamines], also by syringe. I currently owe my veterinarian nearly
$200 for a recent illness, turned fatal, for one of my cats, so I
don't know if they will see Ferret or not. I am going to try to get
them to see her, but in the meantime, I need to know if anyone knows
what this might be. I have considered cancer, renal failure, liver
failure, gi obstruction, and even diabetes but cannot find much
information on anything.
Please help me if you can. Ferret is only [just under] three years
old.
Please respond ASAP!

I lost four of my cats within a nine month period [between June 19,
2001 and March 7, 2002], I don't think I could handle losing my
little weasel, too.
