Subject: Severe low glucose episode

Last Wednesday evening Mazy was unresponsive due to low glucose (she has
insulinoma). I gave her a 1 cc injection of dexamethasone and applied
honey on her gums. I continued applying drops of honey at intervals for 2
hours when she was finally able to swallow but was still out of it. I
then gave her 1 cc of oral pred and continued with the honey. It was 4
a.m. before she finally came out of the episode but not without damage -
she was blind and circling though she would lap from a syringe. For 3
days she continued to go in and out of low glucose episodes till I finally
had her stabilized Sunday evening. Mazy is currently on 1.75 cc of
pedipred twice daily and 0.3 dexamethasone once daily. The dex is
increasing her appetite so her appetite is horrendous and she's already a
tad overweight but at least she's stabilized.

Last night she seemed to be able to see shadows and her circling is now in
very large circles. She is able to get where she wants to go though its
in a round about way.

This tubby little old lady is very strong willed but I'm not sure how
much more her body can take. She's scheduled for a vet visit tomorrow so
I'll be off-line probably till Monday as we are also having two adrenal
surgeries, one on our very old Loverboy.

hugs to all. tle
