Subject: Need advice PLEASE

Hi, I have been posting on and off about my 6 1/2 year old female
that we just finished treating for an ulcer with Biaxin, Amoxi and
Carafate. The ulcer was an educated guess based upon several bouts
of bloody stool. This illness came on suddenly. She first
presented with coughing and what seemed to be a stuffy nose. This
lasted for about a week? She had the bloody stools on day 3 of
illness. Vet said lungs clear, heart good. X-rays showed a possible
tumor or something. We choose to treat for an ulcer the first time
with amoxi and carafate only. She was eating babyfood willingly and
drinking. She also had bouts of diarrhea ( not unusual for her).
She did not start tooth grinding until later in the illness. We
went to a second vet who saw nothing on the x-ray to indicate a
tumor or otherwise. On May 4th we started the second round of
antibiotics. She has been ill since April 11th. The antibiotics
seemed to make her feel worse but she has gone a long time with
normal poops.
Now we have tried all we know and she is still not well. She is not
eating much and we are force feeding. She seems to shiver more than
usual, she is wobbly and still grinds her teeth. She drinks well on
her own. No blood work has been done due to inexperience with
ferrets. In the past when we have had it done it has been ruined
before it even got to the lab!? We are going blindly and searching
for yet another vet. She has had both adrenals removed. The right
was cancer years ago and she received DOCP injections for a long
time and then stopped needing them. Could she be having hormone
problems again that may have been triggered by this illness? Any
help would be greatly appreciated. We just do not know what else to
do for her. Would a DOCP injection hurt her if she does not really
need it? I think blood work would be difficult. She is weak, but
still feisty! She is strong and still fighting.
Thanks,
Kelly
