I brought home a 3 year old male ferret a week and a half ago. He
was
given up because he has unusual growths on his head. There are 5
of
them and 4 are a little smaller than pea size and the one above
his
eye is approaching grape size. They haven't changed in size since
I
brought him home. Our vet said how weird I've never seen this
before. His skin is red in places and smelly.

I would recommend removal and histopathology of the masses. You
don't mention if the places where he is red and smells bad are
associated with the masses - if so, removal asap is indicated. If
not, consider a possibility of adrenal disease.
