I have found Metronidazole very effective in treating diarrhea, under
certain conditions. And, I have never had a problem giving it - in
pill form. I do not think it is appropriate for all conditions,
though, and only use it when my vet thinks it is the way to go.
I have a little girl with IBD (confirmed by biopsy), and the only way
we can control it is with a combination of Metronidazole and pred.
Years ago, I also had a guy with bad ulcers, and the only way we
finally got them cured was with Metronidazole and Pepto.
When giving it, I do not crush the pill or mix it with anything - I
just stick it at the back of the throat and get them to swallow by
feeding baby food thinned with water with a dropper. I realize many
people have trouble giving pills to ferrets, though.
