Subject: Is Change in Water Consumption a Reason to be Concerned

I have noticed that my four year old female MF ferret has gradually
increased her water consumption over the last several months. She is
an only ferret, and I have had her since she was ten weeks old. It
is easy to keep track of how much she is drinking, since her water
bottle has volume markings on it. She used to consume abour 2 ounces
per day. Now it has doubled to an average of 4 ounces per day. She
weighs slightly under two pounds (approximately 1.8 pounds).
According to information I found in the archives, a ferret needs 75
to 100 ml/kg/day. I think that translates to 2.5 ounces to 3 ounces
for each 2 pounds per day. While this amount of water does appear to
be in the normal range and she seems to be completely healthy, I am
wondering if the increased water consumption may indicate a
developing problem. She is due for her vaccinations in June. Is
this something I should discuss with the veterinarian?

Thanks.
