Subject: baby food

Could someone please explain your versions of "baby food" to which
there are so many referrals on this board? To be honest I wouldn't
even feed a (human) baby on babyfood except in an emergency, I always
made my own - a blender and a microwave makes it a 2 minute job
nowadays anyway. When my (ferret)boys have been ill ( rarely) I mince
steamed chicken and give them little pinches of that, lukewarm, with
my fingers, to tempt them, or let them lap a blended warm mixture of
chicken fat, fresh steamed meat, softened kibble, egg and gravy from
a dropper bottle.
When I was in the supermarket the other day I had a look through the
babyfoods, thinking that if I could find one that looked suitable I
would get them accustomed to it as a convenience for if I ever have
to leave them with someone else. All of our babyfoods here, though,
are things like "Wholemeal Pasta and Chicken" "Tomato, Liver and
Bacon" " Country Vegetable and Beef Casserole" "Pureed Kumara with
Braised Lamb" - in other words Chicken ( or lamb, or whatever meat)
is by far NOT the greatest % content, rather healthy-for-humans
veggies and whole grains, albeit mashed down to a mush. Tomatoes,
kumara are not a good ferret diet and even less so if they are ill,
surely?
So I really can't see the purpose is in feeding babyfood, unless
babyfood refers to something else entirely? Please can someone
enlighten me!
